Hailing originally from the heart of the Midwest, Levi grew up in a small town outside Minneapolis, Minnesota. He forged his path early in art, ultimately finding structure and fluidity in tattooing.
Early on, Levi became interested in the classic styles that had become established norms in the tattoo world towards the end of the 1990s. Being drawn to the bold lines and colorful imagery of traditional Japanese tattoos, he soon found himself wanting to dedicate his focus to the elaborate world of Irezumi.
Levi established his vision early on in the style. He implemented a larger scale for his subjects, focusing his dynamic eye for rhythms and color contrast in his pieces while holding to the traditions that came before him.
Levi is constantly looking to do pieces that focus on the subtlety of our world and the human experienceโoften taking subjects such as flowers and foliage and the ineffable fluctuations of our natural landscape like water, rocks, wind, and lighting and pushing them into abstracted states of being better to represent our humanity within their bold flowing states.
